Allen Premium Roofing provides professional roof ventilation in Allen, TX for residential and commercial properties across the US 75 corridor. Allen attics get diagnosed backwards more often than anything else on a roof. The upstairs is hot, so somebody adds exhaust, and the house ends up with more ways for air to leave the attic than to enter it. At that point every additional vent makes the problem slightly worse.
The wave reroofs made this worse in a particular way. Swapping turbines and box vents for a continuous ridge vent was a popular claim-era upgrade and it looks like an improvement from the street. It only works if a slot was genuinely cut through the sheathing on both sides of the ridge, and if the soffit can supply the air that ridge can now remove. Neither of those was checked on most of the roofs we open up.
So we check the slot from inside the attic with a light, and check intake from below the soffit and then again from above. What turns up in this stock is perforated vinyl soffit installed over solid plywood with no holes cut behind it, or intake vents packed solid with blown insulation because nobody fitted baffles when the attic was topped up. An insulation upgrade and a ventilation failure often arrive in the same year.
The rule is dull and it decides everything. Net free area splits roughly half and half between intake and exhaust, and the system runs at whichever is smaller. A ridge vent above a starved soffit does not ventilate. It draws conditioned air up through every ceiling penetration you have, and in a house with an atmospheric water heater it can drag the wrong things along too.
We will not add a powered attic fan to solve this, and we will remove one if you have it and your ceiling plane is not airtight. A fan that cannot draw air from the soffit will draw it from your living space, which raises the cooling bill to treat a symptom. Cutting intake and installing baffles is the cheaper and better answer. It also fixes what the fan was hired to hide.
The order is intake first, then exhaust, then one exhaust type per roof plane. Mixing a ridge vent with turbines or box vents on the same plane short-circuits both, because the ridge draws from whichever opening is nearest instead of from the eave, and air stops moving at the far end of the attic altogether. That mix is common here and usually free to correct.

Materials, equipment and how we do roof ventilation
The difference between roof ventilation that lasts and roof ventilation that gets redone in three years is almost always preparation and materials, not the finish you see on day one. We work with architectural laminate shingles fastened six per shingle inside the nailing zone, UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated laminates, synthetic underlayment fastened with plastic cap nails, starter course carrying a factory-applied adhesive strip at eave and rake, spec them to the job instead of to the invoice, and write the material grades into the free estimate so you know exactly what you are buying.
Every Allen job runs the same way: site walk and measurements, written scope and fixed price, protection of the surrounding area, then the work itself with a daily clean-up. Years of roofing work in the US 75 corridor means we have already met whatever your property is going to throw at us — awkward access, older construction, an HOA with opinions.

Why Allen Chooses Allen Premium Roofing
- ✓We date the roof before we quote it, using the shingle line, the permit record for the address and the tear-off count read from the attic, because most Allen roofs are second roofs and the age of the house tells you nothing useful.
- ✓Every estimate is itemized by detail. Boots, valley metal, edge metal, counterflashing, ridge slot and decking are separate lines, so a repair can be compared honestly against a replacement instead of guessed at.
- ✓When the shingle field is sound and only the reused components have failed, we put the recommendation to wait in writing, with a date to look again and the three things worth watching until then.
- ✓Sealant is used only where a manufacturer's instructions call for it. Chimneys get counterflashing cut into the mortar joint, plumbing vents get new boots, and nothing gets a bead of mastic in place of metal.
The standards behind roof ventilation
Quality here is not a matter of opinion — it is written down. The roof ventilation work we do in Allen follows published industry standards: NRCA publishes the Roofing Manual, the industry's reference for details and slope minimums, and Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association sets the shingle application and ventilation guidance the warranties reference. If a contractor cannot tell you which standard a detail comes from, that is worth asking about before you sign.
Every roof ventilation project in Allen gets the same attention, whether it is a single room or a full commercial job. We show up on schedule, keep the site clean, and stand behind the work — the estimate is free and there is no pressure.
